There’s Always Room for Cello…

Season Five of The Listening Sessions opens with a special reunion between Austin cellist Anthony Lee Rogers and South Padre Island’s Jenuine Cello (Jen Mulhern), longtime friends and fellow cello players. Rogers is a performer, composer, arranger, and educator whose genre-defying career includes founding the Portland Cello Project and creating the Global Cello Project, a virtual international cello collaboration born during the COVID-19 pandemic that connected cellists and audiences around the world.

Together, Tony and Jen will explore the extraordinary range of the cello through an evening of improvisation and musical conversation, including not only classical duets but contemporary arrangements and original songwriting. This season-opening reunion celebrates two friends reconnecting through the cello while inviting the audience into a soulful exploration that highlights the beauty of this amazing instrument.

Two performers, a dozen instruments…

For the first time, singer-songwriter, guitarist and flutist Courtney King joins South Padre Island’s Jenuine Cello for an intimate meeting of voice, guitar, flute and cello. Courtney brings a rare, rock-driven approach to the flute—powerful, expressive and sometimes wildly unexpected—while Jen transforms the cello into a layered world of melody and rhythm. Expect originals, and collaborative arrangements and plenty of spontaneity as the two create a unique musical blueprint for their first collaboration. A Holiday Show and a VERY Merry Reunion…

For our Holiday Show, Lubbock based singer-songwriter Jenni Dale Lord returns to the Listening Sessions stage to celebrate the release of her new Christmas Album that debuts Dec. 6^th. With her soulful voice and beautifully unadorned guitar, JDL joins Jenuine Cello for a holiday collaboration that brings a fresh rebirth to familiar Christmas classics.

These two seasoned artists have shared the stage and studio on numerous occasions over the past 10 years, but this time they’ll be focusing their collaborative efforts on re-imagining the full band arrangements from Jenni’s new Christmas album as duets for voice, cello and guitar. Come join us in the Listening Room as these two friends transform our favorite beloved Christmas classics into something warm, unexpected and uniquely their own!

Season Finale-We End with a BANG not a whimper…

Join us for an evening where three seasoned South Texas musicians bring their very different musical worlds to the same room. Pianist Brett Marshall, whose playing moves comfortably between jazz, gospel, classic pop and the Great American Songbook, joins singer-songwriter, guitarist and violinist Jason Ellsworth, whose southern-roots sensibilities draw from bluegrass, country, gypsy swing and western swing, alongside Jenuine Cello’s signature blend of classical technique, contemporary song and improvisation.

Together, this first-time pairing will wander freely through classical and instrumental music, bluegrass, Broadway, original songwriting and Americana—following the music wherever their combined instincts lead. There truly will be something for everyone, and the magic will be in hearing these three accomplished musicians discover their shared musical language in real time.
